Job description

Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) is an independent, not-for-profit organisation established in 2010 to set and operate global standards for responsible aquaculture. We work with aquaculture producers, seafood processors, retail and foodservice companies, scientists, conservation groups and the public globally to promote the best environmental and social choice in farmed seafood. We are a growing organisation of over 85 people working from various countries, including the Netherlands, UK, Germany, Spain, Australia, Japan, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Brazil and the US.

The ASC seeks Trustees who can help the charity extend its ambition and impact, hold it to account, and who will champion its cause.  This is a fantastic opportunity to join a team of Trustees at the heart of a growing, global organisation.

The Board of Trustees is core to achieving our ambition to grow our impact and influence in service of our vision: ensuring that aquaculture plays a major role in supplying food and social benefits for humanity while minimising negative impacts on the environment.

The ASC’s mission statement is “To transform aquaculture towards environmental sustainability and social responsibility using efficient market mechanisms that create value across the chain.”

We are looking for Trustees who will bring a range of skills to the Board – including experience of using standards to support improvements in employment and social conditions, as well as experience of strategic marketing and retail environment. You will be part of a global team of between 8 and 12 trustees – some from aquaculture backgrounds, some from NGOs, and some independent of the sector - who bring different perspectives and skills. We are keen to ensure our Board has a diversity of skillsets and perspectives reflective of the countries we operate in and especially welcome applications from candidates with lived or work experience in geographies currently under-represented on the Board - including Latin America, China, and Southeast Asia.

If you are interested in our mission and inspired by our work, then we encourage you to apply.

To apply, please submit a CV and covering letter, detailing how you fulfil the role description and personal specification to https://candidates.perrettlaver.com/vacancies/ quoting reference 5399. The deadline for applications is Monday 1st November 2021 at 9:00am (GMT).

Any enquiries should be directed to George Hourmouzios at [email protected] or 020 7340 6246.

The role is unremunerated and based remotely with some travel to board meetings and to visit sites as part of induction and continuing engagement. The expected time commitment for this position is 15 days a year.
