Chinese customs officials and police continue to arrest smugglers involved in the seafood 'grey trade' between China and Vietnam. The latest trade data suggests trade flows have been impacted.
Since China’s highest customs authority spearheaded raids of suspected seafood smuggling operations nationwide in late December, Chinese authorities continue to make arrests in key smuggling areas. In March, authorities announced arrests in Guangzhou and Dongxing, according to Fish First, a Chinese industry publication.
In Guangzhou, the provincial capital of Guangdong province, police seized 20 metric tons of smuggled seafood, including de-headed vannamei shrimp from India and Ecuador (see main photo).
