Three of most well-known names in aquaculture sustainability are joining forces in an effort to increase efficiency and reduce the duplication in the auditing process.
The Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA), Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) and Global G.A.P. signed a memorandum of understanding at the European Seafood Exposition on Tuesday.
The three organizations are planning to explore ways to reduce duplication of efforts for farms, processing plants, hatcheries and feed mills that undertake certification by more than one of the three organization’s programs.
All three certifications share common elements that address the key environmental and social impacts of aquaculture.
The ultimate goal of the MOU is to make certification more accessible and create greater value to a greater number of farmers and processors.
