Seafood wholesaler Bidvest Australia has been awarded Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification meaning other suppliers in the country could follow suit, according to the accreditation body.

Australia and New Zealand MSC manager Patrick Caleo told Hospitality Magazine the news was a “major breakthrough for the market for sustainable seafood in Australia”.

“In Europe, there are many restaurants with MSC certification and now with Australia’s leading seafood distributor gaining certification Australia has the potential to become a top destination for diners looking for sustainable choices in seafood,” Caleo told Hospitality Magazine.

Bidvest’s range includes over 56,000 foodservice products, 3000 core hospitality products, and an offering of between 400 and 600 lines depending on season.
